The Challenge
Selling custom PCs online is fundamentally different from selling standard products. Customers aren't simply adding a single SKU to a cart. They're building a system made up of multiple components that need to work together, remain available, and produce an accurate final price.
As NZXT's commerce operation grew, that complexity extended beyond the storefront and into the systems responsible for processing and fulfilling every order.
- Complex product configurations. Customers needed to configure PCs from multiple components, creating opportunities for incompatible selections, incorrect configurations, and a difficult buying experience.
- Commerce and operational systems were disconnected. Shopify handled the storefront while ERP and other systems supported operations behind it. Information needed to move reliably between them for orders to be fulfilled correctly.
- Fulfillment depended on processes across multiple systems. As order volume increased, manual dependencies became increasingly difficult to maintain.
- Customer and product data existed across different parts of the business. There was no single operational layer connecting users, products, orders, and the devices customers ultimately owned.
- Peak traffic couldn't compromise the experience. Major commerce events such as Black Friday required the platform to handle significantly increased demand without disrupting purchasing or operations.
What We Built
Rather than treating the storefront as the entire commerce system, we built the infrastructure needed to connect the buying experience with the operational systems behind it.
Custom PC Builder
We developed a custom PC configuration experience that allowed customers to build their system while validating their selections in real time.
Compatibility logic helped prevent invalid configurations, while dynamic pricing kept the final purchase aligned with the components selected by the customer.
The result was a buying experience designed around the way NZXT actually sells PCs rather than forcing a complex product into a traditional eCommerce flow.
Connected Commerce Infrastructure
We created a central operational layer connecting the commerce experience with ERP and other systems used across the business.
Instead of requiring every system to communicate independently with every other system, this layer helped coordinate the information moving between commerce, products, users, orders, and operations.
This gave NZXT an architecture that could evolve as new systems and experiences were introduced.
Automated Fulfillment Workflows
Order and inventory information was synchronized across systems so fulfillment could operate with fewer manual dependencies.
Workflows that previously required coordination between different systems could be automated, allowing orders to move from purchase toward fulfillment through a more connected process.
